Born in Shima, Mie Pre­fecture. Original personal name: Motokatsu and commonly called Kambe.

Career

Lived at Yamada, Ise Province (Mie Prefecture). Was one of the outstanding poets of his time who helped to restore haiku poetry, others being Buson Yosa and Gyodai Kato.
