Background
Family crest and motto Jamais Arrier (never behind) of Clan Douglas. The family took the name of Drysdale (Dryfsdale) in around 1503 after leaving Stirling area in Scotland, purchased and settled the shot of Haugh of Dollar in the parish of Dryfefdale taking the name from the parish. This was as a result of a melle between the Douglasses and a family of Johnstone's following a dispute over water. The Douglasses defended their right to the watercourse to drive a mill and in battle, several Johnstone's were killed. Discretion being the better part of valor, the family departed and when the king passed through the area in 1506 but did not recognize us. My Father was John Drysdale of South Queensferry Mother was Olive May Drysdale nee Hardie of Kirconnell Dumfriesshire.
