Wilton practises as a partner at Bermans, a commercial law firm headquartered at Exchange Station in Liverpool. Keith Berman established the practice in Liverpool in 1970, and it went on to build a national reputation from its North West base.
The firm opened a Manchester office in 1985, while its Liverpool operation expanded rapidly in the late 1980s. That growth outgrew the existing premises, leading to a move to Pioneer Buildings in 1990 and then to Exchange Station in 2005. The Exchange Station complex occupies the frontage of the former Liverpool Exchange railway station, which opened in 1850 and closed in 1977 before the building was redeveloped and renamed in 2013.
Bermans presents itself as a partner-led commercial practice, with a particular reputation in asset finance and invoice finance work. In 2022 a 75 per cent stake passed to MAPD Group, a company formed in 2020 through a management buyout of another Liverpool firm, Jackson Lees, while the existing partners retained a 25 per cent share.
