Sherman, Christopher Elias was born on December 28, 1869 in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Son of Sylvester Morrill and Lemyra Ann (Shoemaker) Sherman.


Graduate Columbus (O.) Central High School, 1887. 4 years in civil engineering (3 years in the field), Ohio State University, C.E., 1894.


In college and in general engineering work, 1888-1894, chief draftsman, Ohio Geological Survey, 1892. Chief draftsman United States Barge Canal Survey, in Ohio, 1895-1896. Assistant professor and professor civil engineering, Ohio State University, from September 1896, 1st United States assistant engineer 4th Army Corps, 1898.

United States assistant engineer in Yellowstone Park, summers, 1899, 1900. Representative of goes. of Ohio in State Topographic Survey, 1902-1936. Also consulting work for State of Ohio.

Ohio-Michigan boundary commissioner, 1915. Chief engineer Scioto-Sandusky Conservancy, 1935, president of the board directors, 1937.
