He attended schools in Seville, and some years later (1888) graduated in architecture at Cornell University.
In 1889 Mr. Martin opened an office in Philadelphia to begin professional practice, and carried on his work in that city until 1894. During that year he accepted an invitation to become Instructor of Architecture at his Alma Mater, serving successively as Assistant Professor, and Professor of the College of Architecture from 1903 until his retirement to private life in 1932. He was also Acting Dean from 1904 to 1909, Dean of the School between 1909 and 1919, and Acting Dean again during 1931-32. In addition he was one of the founders in 1912 of the Collegiate Schools of Architecture, and served as Secretary-Treasurer for more than a decade.
To quote one of his contemporaries, ’’The full extent of his constructive work and cooperation during the time which marked the coming of age of architectural education in this country . . . was best recognized and appreciated by those who worked with him.”
He had been a member of the Central New York Chapter after 1899, promoted to Institute Fellowship in 1907.
