Lamy graduated from Ecole Polytechnique in 1962. A year later he received a Master of Science degree in chemistry and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1969 from the University of Paris.
Lamy began his career as a research scientist at National Center for Scientific Research in 1964. Twelve years later he took a position of a full professor at the University of Poitiers. In 1976, Claude took a position of a director of electrocatalysis laboratory at National Center for Scientific Research at the same university and held it for twenty five years. Since 1997 he has been a distinguished professor at the University of Poitiers.
Lamy is a member of French Society of Electrochemistry, American Electrochemical Society and International Society of Electrochemistry.
On December 2, 1967 Claude Lamy married Eugénie Pitara. They have 2 children.
