Colby Kullman was born on March 22, 1945, in New York City, New York, United States, and raised in The Bronx. He is the son of Edgar F. and Doris (Peabody) Kullman. He has a brother whose name is Russell. As a child, Kullman loved swimming, movies, board games, and traveling.
Education
Colby Kullman attended Our Saviour Lutheran High School in The Bronx, New York. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University in 1966, a Master of Arts degree at the University of Chicago in 1968. In 1973 he received a Master of Philosophy degree at the University of Kansas and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1981.
Career
Colby Kullman is Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Mississippi. His teaching and research interests included restoration and eighteenth-century studies, dramatic literature, satire, biography, comedy, and tragedy. He began his career in 1984 as an assistant professor. In 1990 he became an associate professor, a position he held till 1996, the year he became a professor of English.
He is an editor of the two-volume reference work Theatre Companies of The World (1986), co-founder and co-editor (with Philip C. Kolin) of the journal Studies in American Drama, 1945-Present (1986-1994), and co-editor of Speaking On Stage (1996, with Philip C. Kolm). In 1997, he was elected as Elsie M. Hood Outstanding Teacher.
