The Legend of Snowshoe Thompson: Mailcarrier on Skis is the true adventure about John A. Thompson. A native of Norway, this well-noted "father of skiing in the United States" delivered the mail for 20 years to gold miners cut-off from the rest of the world during the California Gold Rush Era, making his first 90-mile mail run over the Sierra Nevada on Jan. 3, 1856 from Placerville, CA to Genoa, NV. They called him "Snowshoe," and the name stuck.
