Ho, Coy Choke was born on October 3, 1939 in Jelebu, Negri Sembilan, Sembilan, Malaysia. Son of Liong Kim Hoe and Yang Chong.


Bachelor of Science in Botany with honours, University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 1964. Doctor of Philosophy in Microbial and Bio-chemical Genetics, John Curtin School Medical Research/, Australian National University, Canberra, 1968.


Lecturer University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, 1968-1974, associate professor, 1974-1977, foundation professor microbiology, since 1977, deputy dean science, 1978-1979, dean science, 1979-1981, head department genetics and cellular biology, 1986-1990. Chairman biotechnology department Institute Advanced Studies-U. Malaya, since 1991. Fulbright-Hays visiting lecturer Fulbright-Hays Commission, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 1981-1982.

Visiting professor Osaka University, Japan, 1987. Consultant in palm oil and pharmaceutical industries, biotechnology and tropical biology.
