Maude, Cyril Francis was born on April 24, 1862 in London, England. Son of Captain Charles Henry and Honorary Georgiana Hanbury Tracy Maude.


Studied for the stage.


1 son, 2 daus.; married second, Mistress P. H. Trew, 1927. Went to Canada, 1882, on account of ill health, and worked as farm hand. Debut as the servant in East Lynne, Denver, 1884.

Returned to England same year and appeared as Mr. Pilkie in The Great Divorce Case, Criterion Theatre, London, 1886. Played in various theatres in London for 10 years, as a comedian.

With Frederick Harrison managed Haymarket Theatre, London, 1896-1905. Manager The Playhouse, since 1907. Principal rôle: Major Bingham, in The Second in Command.

Lord Meadows, in Toddles. James Cottenham, in Tantalizing Tommy. The Red Gavin Dishart, in The Little Minister.

Sir Peter Teazle, in The School for Scandal. Doctor Pangloss, in The Heir-at-Law. Richard Lascelles, in The Flag Lieutenant.

Etc. Made tour of the United States and Canada, 1913-1914. Ex-president National Managers’ Association, Actors Orphanage.
