Education
Dampei Toyozawa became a disciple of Hirosuke Toyozawa at an early age and made his debut at Hikorokuza Theater, where his playing enabled osumidayu to become a star.
Career
Not only was Danpei a master samisen player, but he also excelled in composing music. His musical scores for Tsubosaka and Ryoben-sugi are still remembered. He composed a number of scores for Bunraku and the rare modern scripts that he introduced into the repertoire. Tsubosaka reigenki (Miracle at Tsubosaka Temple, 1887), for example, was inspired by an older version.
