(This book provides excellent techniques for detecting and...)
This book provides excellent techniques for detecting and evaluating biofilms: sticky films on materials that are formed by bacterial activity and produce a range of industrial and medical problems such as corrosion, sanitary problems, and infections. Accordingly, it is essential to control biofilms and to establish appropriate countermeasures, from both industrial and medical viewpoints. This book offers valuable, detailed information on these countermeasures. It also discusses the fundamentals of biofilms, relates various substrates to biofilms, and presents a variety of biofilm reactors. However, the most important feature of this book is its clear focus on addressing the practical aspects from an engineering viewpoint. Therefore, it offers an excellent practical guide for engineers and researchers in various fields, and can also be used as a great academic textbook.

Dana Barry studied at the State University of New York-Potsdam and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1971, a Master of Science (science education) in 1972. In 1974, she received a Master of Science (chemistry) from Clarkson University, and in 1985, a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia Pacific University. Dana Barry received an honorary doctorate from Ansted University, Malaysia, in 2001. In 2011, she also received a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from Osaka University, Japan.
In 1993-1999, Dana Barry worked as an editor for Clarkson's space magazine Parallax, Clarkson University. At that time she was a program administrator for the Clarkson Space Grant Program. In 1998-1999, she was a program administrator for Clarkson's REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates). Since 1993, she is an editor and senior technical writer for Clarkson's Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP). Since 2000, she is an external professor and honorary advisory council member for Ansted University. She worked as an instructor for Horizon Program at Clarkson University (2002-2005), for a graduate course in Elementary Science Methods at Potsdam College - Fall Semester 2003. Since July 2003, she is the President of Ansted University's Scientific Board, British Virgin Islands, U.K. She was a science expert who led the science component of science and literacy programs for libraries (in St. Lawrence, Lewis, Jefferson, and Oswego Counties) for Head Start staff and early education programs. It was made possible by a Family Literacy grant from the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Division of Library Development (2010-2011). She was a research professor at the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Clarkson University (2014-2016); since 2015 she has been working at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She is a professional tutor and consultant at State University of New York-Canton since April 2018.
She co-authored textbooks used by Japanese students and has had the opportunity to teach classes in Japan at the elementary, secondary, and college levels.
As a visiting professor, Dana Barry attended Ansted University in Malaysia (March 2001, December 2007), Suzuka National College of Technology in Japan (August 2002, November 2005, June 2008, September/October 2010, May 2012, September 2013), England (September 2003), Malaysia (November 2004), National Institute of Technology, Suzuka College in Japan (August/September 2014).
Dana Barry also presented a lot of lectures in Japan: Engineering Design lectures, "Life in Northern New York State & Its Universities" lecture, lectures about Creativity and Entrepreneur Education, Successful Entrepreneurship, and Promoting Creative Engineering Education, about a Core Curriculum Model for Engineering Education. She also presented several workshops.
Dana Barry organized the Science Education Symposium, NERM at Clarkson University (1999), the World's First Moonlink Mission - educational component to NASA's Lunar Prospector Mission (1998), the World's First NEARLink Mission - educational component to NASA's NEAR (The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous) Mission (1998), the World's First MarsLink Mission - educational component to NASA's Global Surveyor Mission (2000).
Dana Barry has had her own science education television series, called Sensational Science. She served as a scriptwriter, host, and co-producer for the shows.
Dana Barry composes music, which is being incorporated into a collaborative chemistry education project that she has with three professors at Suzuka National College of Technology in Japan. Their unique multisensory project uses music and chemical experiments, which she prepared, to teach college and high school chemistry in a very interesting and meaningful way.

1994Dana Barry, through her work and study, is accustomed to logic, proof, and facts. However, her faith and prayer are endless and extraordinary. Dana Barry's "spiritual side" is what gives her life purpose, joy, and meaning. She also wrote the book "The Power of Prayer: a Science Educator's Experience."
Science excites and motivates Dana Barry in such a way that she is able to transfer the excitement to students in her workshops. One of her great loves is music. She sings, plays keyboard, and she is an avid trumpet player. She wrote the lyrics and composed the music for the science education music CD and cassette Chemical Sensation with the Barrs' Tones. The chemistry songs, which cover the chemistry curriculum, are written in rhyming poems and have diverse music styles (rock, rap, blues). For fun, she writes love mysteries.
Dana Marie Malloy married James Francis Barry on July 3, 1971. They have four children: James Daniel, Brian Patrick, Daniel Thomas, Eric Michael.
