In school, Dana wrote stories and drew pictures. At Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, she majored in Creative Writing and Art History and received Bachelor of Arts in 1993. In some years she decided to become a student again. In the summer of 2015, she graduated from the Vermont College of Fine Arts with a Master’s Degree in Writing for Children and Young Adults.
After Dana's studying, Dana went on to become a children’s book editor, for a few years at Soundprints in Norwalk, Connecticut, and a few more years at Children’s Press in Danbury, Connecticut. Then she left office life for some time to enjoy family life. Through all that, she was always writing. Her first book was published in 1995, and she’s been writing every day since then.
In 2015, after Dana's earning Master’s Degree in Writing for Children and Young Adults. Then she decided to become a teacher, and currently teaches writing classes at the University of Hartford as an adjunct faculty member.
On July 2, 1994 Dana married a teacher Christopher Rau.
