Limpitlaw earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Witwatersand in 1993. Two years later he earned his Master of Science degree from the same university. In 2002, Daniel was given a Ph.D. from the University of Witwatersand.
Limpitlaw began his career as a junior lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand in 1994. Three years later he took a position of a lecturer in environment engineering at the same university and held it until 2004. Since 1999 Daniel has been an owner of Limpitlaw Consulting.
In 2004, he became a director of the Centre for Sustainability in Mining and Industry at the University of Witwatersrand. He served as a senior engineer at Turgis Consulting from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, Limpitlaw was appointed a technical services manager at Vatukoula Gold Mines Ltd. In 2011, he held a position of a consultant at Elemental Minerals Ltd., where he worked until 2013.
Limpitlaw is a member of the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
