Daniel Protheroe, British conductor, composer.


Protheroe, Daniel was born on November 24, 1866 in Ystradgynlais, Swansea Valley, S. Wales. Son of Daniel and Eleanor (Parents) Protheroe.


Educated Swansea Normal College. Studied music; honorary Museum Bac., Trinity College, Toronto. Museum Doctor, Grand Conservatory, New York.

Museum D., Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 1931. Won prize in local Eisteddfod when 5 years of age. Became leader of Ystradgynlais Choral Society at 18.


Came to the United States, 1886, naturalized citizen, 1891. Conductor Scranton Cymrodorion, 1886-1894. In Milwaukee, 1894-1909.

Conductor Arion Musical Club (Milwaukee), Central Church Choir (Chicago). Conductor choruses of Illinois Bell Telephone Сompany (Chicago), Sherwood Junior Chorus, Daily News Choral Society, Armour Institute Glee Club, Chicago Welsh Male Chorus, Municipal Choral Society (Gary, Indiana). Teacher of singing and composition, Sherwood Music School Composer of cantatas, choruses, songs, etc.
