Sernine graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1975 and a Master of Arts in library science in 1977, both from the University of Montreal.
After working at the National Library at Quebec, Sernine has been writing since 1975, mainly in the fields of science fiction, fantasy and children's literature. Serine's first stories ( Jalbert and The Bottle ) appeared in the Solaris magazine, then called Requiem, in 1975. In 1979, his first novel, Organization Argus, as well as two collections of fantastic news, The Tales of the Shadow and Legends of the Old Manor, were published.
Since then, he has published 15 novels or adult books, 18 novels and collections for teenagers, 3 children's books and more than 80 short stories.
During his career, Sernine has also been a literary director of the "Jeunesse-Pop" collection at Médiaspaul since 1983 and of Lurelu since 1993, both devoted to children's literature, as well as a member of the editorial board of the science fiction journal Solaris.
Now Senine works as a freelance writer and lives in Montreal, Canada.
Daniel Sernine is one of Canada’s best-known Francophone authors of science fiction and fantasy, both for adults and young readers. Since 1979, he has published 39 books, over 80 stories and novellas in magazines, fanzines and anthologies in Québec, Canada, France and Belgium.
His works have repeatedly garnered prizes, including the Grand prix de la science-fiction et du fantastique québécois in 1992 and 1995. Five of his stories have appeared in translation in earlier Tesseracts anthologies, and four of his juvenile novels were published in English by Black Moss Press.
Sernine is a member of the Union des écrivains québécois and Communication-jeunesse.
Sernine is single and has no children.
