Daniel Joseph Thiel, American Physicist, researcher. Achievements include patent for mounting of an X-ray concentrator; development of an optical element, the tapered capillary X-ray concentrator which focuses hard X-rays to smallest sizes ever achieved; construction of a scanning X_ray microscope with such an element; determined the first molecular excited-state structure.
