As external student completed two grades at Moscow Construction Institute.
In his youth worked as hired framhand. 1912 drafted into Russian Army. During World War 1 promoted lieutenant and awarded four George Crosses for bravery in action.
Sided with Bolsheviks and engaged in revol propaganda among troops. After 1917 October Revol returned home and helped to establish Soviet regime. 1918 joined Red Army.
Taken prisoner by Kolchak’s troops at Samara. December 1918 joined Kolchak militia with other troops, then switched allegiance to Bolsheviks and remained in Siberia with his detachment, which was incorporated in the Siberian Red Partisans Front. Early 1920 appointed commander, East Siberian Soviet Army.
After reestablishment of Soviet rule in East Siberia recalled to Moscow to work with General Staff, then sent to Orenburg to Higher Military School, shortly relocated in Tashkent. Fought against remnants of Emir of Bukhara’s forces. From 1921 assistant comissar.

1926 transferred to Moscow as military comissar. Main Military Store Depots. 1928 appointed head of communal mang at construction of Dnieper Hydroelectr Plant.
Then works mang for State Dnieper Construction Trust. From 1930 director, East Siberian Kray Kolkhoz Construction Agency. Early 1933 chairman, East Siberian Kray Council, Social for the Promotion of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Defense, Aviation and Chemical Indiana.
