Ivan Masychev was born on February 3, 1923 in the village of Peschanka (now Balashov, Saratov, Russian Federation). His parents were peasants.
Ivan Masychev graduated from the Kuibyshev parachute school, the Military Academy of Armored Forces in 1955.
During the Great Patriotic War, Ivan Masychev was engaged in active combat. He was a commander of the motorcycle battalion of the 50th separate motorcycle regiment (3rd Guards Tank Army, 1st Ukrainian Front). In 1980-1984 Ivan Masychev occupied the post of the Chief enlistment officer of the Voronezh Region. In 1984 Ivan Masychev attained a rank of a reserve officer. He lived in Voronezh.
