Dann Hazel graduated from Newberry College in 1976, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He earned a master's degree in education in The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina in 1987. Also, he has a master's degree in clinical and media psychology from Fielding Graduate University. He has earned a doctorate in psychology at Fielding Graduate University. Dann's doctoral dissertation is entitled "Relationships of Psychological Well-Being, Social Morals, and Personality among Religious and Non-Religious Individuals."
Dann Hazel taught English and journalism in South Carolina schools for thirteen years; worked as a counselor at a psychiatric hospital for over five years. He was a director of federal grant at Trident Technical College, Charleston, South Carolina, United States in 1996-2000. Dann Hazel is a Florida-based psychology professor and author. His professional experience includes teaching high school students, directing college preparatory grants, counseling in a private psychiatric hospital, teaching psychology on the college level, and writing.
His writing credits include a number of magazine articles about the Spoleto U.S.A. Festival in Charleston, SC, a young adult novel, and Witness: Gay and Lesbian Clergy Report from the Front and Moving On: The Gay Man's Guide for Coping When a Relationship Ends. His self-published fiction includes Sinful Sadie and Brutal Exclusions. For about six years, he co-authored several Walt Disney World guidebooks with his husband. His short stories, including "The Tick Wars," "Haitian Elegy," and "Riding to Jedburg," focus on characters facing unique obstacles to fulfillment, yet, because of their ability to cultivate confidence in their personal strengths, they emerge victorious from life's challenges.
Dann Hazel is known as a writer and educator with a doctorate in media psychology with the intention of publication and full-time professorship. His primary interests are in positive psychology, geropsychology, treatment of anxiety, and depression, technology and media in education, and media psychology. He is also a life coach.
