Feldmeir began his career as a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College in 1948. A year later he earned his Master of Arts degree from Harvard University.
Feldmeir began his career as a staff writer and columnist of Minneapolis Tribune (nowadays Star Tribune) in 1949. Six years later he took a position of a news editor and a managing editor in 1956 of the same newspaper. Then in 1968, Daryle became a managing editor of Chicago Daily News. Two years later he was appointed an executive editor and editor in 1971 of the same newspaper. In 1977, Feldmeir was named a consultant to Marshall Field. Also he was a publisher of the Chicago Sun-Times.
