David Bell was born on March 16 in 1945, in New York, United States. He is a son of Murray F. Bell.
Bell received his education at St. Lawrence University in 1968.
Bell started his career as an associate professor of philosophy at University of South Carolina, Lancaster Campus in 1982. Then he became a chairperson of faculty since 1982 to 1983 and also worked as a dean for academic affairs at University of South Carolina at Columbia till 1985. Since 1985, he started working as an associate professor of philosophy there. Since 1986 till 1988, he was also an associate dean of South Carolina Honors College and after 1988 - a director of 1990 institutional self-study.
In 1989 Bell was appointed an assistant vice-president for institutional planning and since 1991, he became an associate provost for institutional planning and research. He also worked for 2 years at the University of North Texas, Denton as an associate professor of higher education, associate vice-president for university and Health Science Center affairs, project director for Dallas Education Consortium and chairperson of Committee on Health Science Resources till 1995.
Since 1995, he works as an associate professor of medical humanities and vice-president for administrative affairs at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth and since 1996 - project director at Heritage Alzheimer’s Research Center.
Bell was also a research fellow at Center for Business Ethics Waltham, Massachusetts, Council of Public College and University Presidents, chairperson of Committee on Statewide Planning, fiscal agent at National Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities and member of board directors at South Carolina Higher Education Assessment Network and County Medical Education Consortium.
Since 1997, he is a volunteer coach for Dentsville Youth Baseball and Columbia Junior Tennis League.
