David received his education at the Universities of Upsala and Lund in Sweden and at the University of Kristiania in Norway.
In 1894-1907 he was a Member of the Swedish Parliament in the Lower House, then he became a Member of the Senate. In 1911-1914 he worked as a Minister of War (in the liberal Cabinet of Sweden), Swedish Consul-General.Since 1918, he took a position of a Swedish Minister to China and Japan. During several years he was active as a journalist, editor of periodicals and dailies, and in the political life he was a leader of the suffrage movement in Sweden.
David is married to Ingrid Margareta Anjou.
