David Corrsin is an American lawyer who built his legal career in Boston, where he was a partner at Palmer & Dodge and co-founded the firm's energy group. He later became executive vice president and general counsel of Ameresco, an energy services company, and his practice has centered on energy regulation, project financing, and independent power development.
Background
David Corrsin was born in 1958 in New Rochelle, New York, United States. New Rochelle is a city in Westchester County, just north of New York City, and forms part of the New York metropolitan area.
His formal education took him from the Northeast to the Midwest, first to Providence, Rhode Island, for undergraduate study in biology, and then to Chicago for legal training. That academic path preceded a career devoted to energy law and regulation.
Education
Corrsin earned an A.B. in biology from Brown University, where he studied from 1976 to 1980. Founded in 1764 in Providence, Rhode Island, Brown is one of the Ivy League universities and combines a liberal arts tradition with graduate and professional study.
He then attended the University of Chicago Law School, where he studied from 1983 to 1986 and received a Juris Doctor degree. The University of Chicago was founded in 1890, and its law school, established in 1902, is known for scholarship that combines legal analysis with economics and other disciplines. Corrsin was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1986, the year he completed his law degree.
Career
Corrsin was admitted to the bar in Massachusetts in 1986 and began practicing in Boston. He became a partner at Palmer & Dodge, a Boston law firm whose name traces to earlier Boston practices such as Palmer, Dodge, Gardner and Bradford, where the lawyer Robert Gray Dodge served as a senior partner. By the early twenty-first century the firm had become known for its representation of life sciences and technology companies, and for public finance work. At Palmer & Dodge, Corrsin co-founded the Palmer & Dodge Energy Group and represented independent power and energy conservation developers in the United States and overseas.
His career also included positions at Chadbourne & Parke, a New York law firm founded in 1902 by Thomas Chadbourne and known for project finance and energy and infrastructure transactions. The firm combined with Norton Rose Fulbright in 2017. He also held energy-focused positions at Hudson Research and at the National Wildlife Federation, a conservation organization.
Corrsin later served as an executive vice president of Public Power International, Inc., an independent developer of power projects in south Asia and Europe. Before joining that company, he had held various positions at Palmer & Dodge.
He is executive vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary, and a director of Ameresco, Inc. Ameresco was founded in 2000 by George Sakellaris and is headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts, where it provides energy efficiency, infrastructure upgrade, and renewable energy services. In this role he oversees the financial and regulatory issues of the company's independent power, utility, and energy conservation projects.
