Contributions fall under one or both of two main headings: statistics (not always related to economics) and finance. Under finance the main headings are: credit risk, capital budgeting and the cost of capital, term structure of interest rates,
and time as a dimension of investment. Early work on term structure (books 2 and 3) was fundamental.
Early work on cost of capital (articles 2 and 6) was involved in a famous controversy with Modigliani and Miller and was widely reprinted. Later work is concerned mainly with incorporating the theme of time as a dimension of investment with that of capital budgeting.
