Background

Ogden, David was born in 1707 in Newark, New Jersey, United States. Son of Josiah and Catharine (Hardenbroeck) Ogden.

Education

Graduated from Yale, 1728.

Career

Member His Majesty’s Council for Province of New Jersey, 1751-1774. A leading lawyer of New Jersey and New York. Appointed delegate to Stamp Act Congress, 1765, disagreed with its recommendations.

The American Association For Justice New Jersey Supreme Court, 1772-1776, deprived of position because of Loyalist leanings, escaped to New York. Property confiscated by rebels. Member Board Refugees, New York City.

Went to England, 1783, returned to American 1790.
