Career
He is the first Korean-American to hold a council seat in Los Angeles, California. Ryu defeated Carolyn Ramsay, a former Councilman Tom LaBonge aide, on May 19, 2015. He was ceremonially sworn in June 29, 2015, his official start date was July 1.
