David Wykes

Background

David Wykes was born on January 14, 1941 in Nuneaton, United Kingdom; the son of Frank R. Wykes, a coal miner, and Joyce Wykes. David immigrated to the United States in 1972. Since 1998 he has been a naturalized citizen.

Education

David Wykes received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oxford, a Master of Arts from Miami University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Virginia.

Career

David Wykes began his career at the University of Nottingham as an assistant lecturer in 1967. In a year he became a lecturer at the University of Trondheim. From 1969 to 1972 David worked at Trinity College as a junior research fellow. In 1972 Wykes was appointed at Dartmouth College, first as an assistant professor, then as associate professor and professor. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus.

David wrote his first book A Preface to Dryden in 1977. His latest book Evelyn Waugh: A Literary Life was published in 1999.

Achievements

• David Wykes has been listed as a noteworthy English language educator by Marquis Who's Who. He wrote three world-known books, among which is Evelyn Waugh: A Literary Life.
