(If you would like to break away from the large publishers...)
If you would like to break away from the large publishers' approach that many professors describe as "fluid mechanics for the masses," "excessive fluff" and "delaying the appearance of PDE's to Chapter 12," this may be the book you have been looking for! As with the first, second and third editions, this book rejects the modern, watered-down approach that (in at least one modern text) apologizes for the need to use concepts from freshman calculus and (in most cases) emphasizes everything but the basics of fluid motion. Written in an easy-to-read style that students have praised virtually everywhere the book has been used, there is no need to have artificial devices such as one-sentence descriptions on each page to help orient the reader. The worked examples have been integrated into the presentation in a format which insures that the basic concepts are easy to locate, and typographical errors are cataloged on DCW Industries WWW Home Page. That is, the major flaws of the book's major competitors, all of which are suitable for only a one-semester course, do not plague Basic Fluid Mechanics.

(This new book addresses some of the most popular cliches ...)
This new book addresses some of the most popular cliches used by modern American liberals as justification for their beliefs and policies. Often with humor and always with insight, Dr. Wilcox analyzes and explains the true meaning of popular liberal cliches. The book provides rational arguments refuting the ideas of the leftist radicals who have hijacked the term liberal, which---in classical literature---describes the individualistic, free-enterprise oriented philosophy of men such as John Locke, Thomas Jefferson and Adam Smith. The book consists of 10 essays focusing on political philosophy, economics and individual liberty as follows... POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY-- Right-Wing Extremists. A discussion of political spectra and a critical review of the definitions of conservative, liberal, communism and fascism. The essay highlights the libertarian model of the political spectrum, which is a vast improvement over the feckless models used in typical political science and civics classes. There is no Black or White, Just Many Shades of Gray. Discussion of the origins of Western philosophy, illustrating how the clash between Platonists and Aristotelians has dominated Western thought for more than 2000 years. Our Children, Our Values. An explanation of how politicians use our own values against us with classical "bait-and-switch" and "sting" techniques to justify new programs, taxes and even wars. ECONOMICS-- From Each According to his Ability, to Each According to His Need. Although this Marxist phrase is rarely used, it has reappeared in synonymous phrases such as "graduated income tax," "surtax on the rich," "level the playing field" and "equality of income." The analysis of this essay leads to discussion of the flat tax and the national sales tax. Monopolies are Inevitable in a Free, Unregulated Economy. This Marxist phrase is analyzed in a historical review of monopoly formation in America. The essay explains what Alan Greenspan meant when he said "The world of antitrust is reminiscent of Alice's Wonderland." Money is the Root of All Evil. This biblical quote is often used to condemn wealthy people. The essay demonstrates that those who do the condemning generally advocate the two primary evil practices that are possible relating to money! We Must Find a Way to Pay for Tax Cuts. This essay examines the three times in the 20th century that presidents (Coolidge, Kennedy and Reagan) have dramatically reduced the maximum marginal tax rate. In all three instances, total tax revenues have increased and the tax burden has been shifted from the lower and middle classes to the wealthy. Comparison of three 8-year peacetime expansions (1921-1928, 1983-1990 and 1991-1998) contrast the effects of tax cuts (Coolidge, Reagan) with tax increases (Bush, Clinton). INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY: The Divine Right of the King. This cliche is never used in public. Rather, alternative forms such as "sex lies don't rise to the level of impeachment" and "everybody does it" are used---but amount to the same thing. In depth analysis shows how the Senate's acquittal of President Clinton raises serious questions about the future of the American Republic. The Problem is Hate Radio. This essay assesses the current status of The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and how liberals' credentials as defenders of free speech become "curiouser and curiouser" all the time. We Must Save the Neighborhood From People Who Would Paint Their House Purple. The concluding essay examines a little known threat to individual liberty, the ominous growth of Homeowner Associations (HOAs) and the petty "dictators" they produce and encourage. Their lobby in Washington, DC is so powerful that they are on an equal footing with the IRS and mortgage holders for homeowners who declare bankruptcy! You will learn how "a HOA is fertile ground for the seeds of injustice, and lawyers are the fertilizer."

Basic Fluid Mechanicsis an antidote for oversimplified textbooks. If you would like to break away from the large publishers' approach that many professors describe as "fluid mechanics for the masses," "excessive fluff" and "delaying the appearance of PDE's to Chapter 12," this may be the book you have been looking for! As with the first and second editions, this book rejects the modern, watered-down approach that (in at least one modern text) apologizes for the need to use concepts from freshman calculus and (in most cases) emphasizes everything but the basics of fluid motion. Written in an easy-to-read style that students have praised virtually everywhere the book has been used, there is no need to have artificial devices such as one-sentence descriptions on each page to help orient the reader. The worked examples have been integrated into the presentation in a format which insures that the basic concepts are easy to locate. That is, the major flaws of the book's major competitors, all of which are suitable for only a one-semester course, do not plague Basic Fluid Mechanics. Basic Fluid Mechanics is an exciting and innovative junior/senior level text that provides an introduction to the basic concepts of fluid mechanics. It has also been used as an introductory text for graduate students with no prior knowledge of fluid mechanics. The book recognizes the fact that the modern fluid dynamicist has three research tools at his or her disposal, namely, analytical methods, experimentation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). It makes full recognition of this triad of approaches that constitute today's unified theory of fluid mechanics.

(Have you ever wondered why Republicans often lose despite...)
Have you ever wondered why Republicans often lose despite having the best ideas? After reading this novel, you will have understood the most fundamental difference between Democrat and Republican tactics, and what Democrats know that Republicans don't.... Democrats are at war with Republicans! This book captures the essence of modern-day political campaigning at the grassroots level, and clearly illustrates the Machiavellian victory-at-any-price, ends-justify-the-means tactics employed by the party of Bill Clinton and Al Gore. Presenting a fictional description of a campaign for the California State Assembly in the San Diego suburbs, the book tells a bittersweet tale with interesting subplots, some sprinkled with humor and others with sadness. The book is sprinkled throughout with examples of how Democrats wage their war on both Republicans and on America's moral foundations.

(This is the Second Edition of a text that greatly enhance...)
This is the Second Edition of a text that greatly enhances the utility of Basic Fluid Mechanics by David C. Wilcox. Study Guide for Basic Fluid Mechanics contains a collection of solved problems for all important concepts developed in the main text. Additionally, it is sufficiently general and self contained to be used with most undergraduate fluid-mechanics texts. While Basic Fluid Mechanics includes examples for all key concepts, the number of worked problems has been held to a minimum to eliminate disruption of a continuous train of thought in presenting basic concepts. Preserving the focus in this manner is a key problem every author must address. This study guide contains 129 examples worked in complete detail to help students benefit from step-by-step solutions, while maintaining the integrity and readability of ''Basic Fluid Mechanics." Another significant problem faced by an author in preparing a textbook for use in a classroom setting is deciding on the level of complexity of the examples embodied in the narrative. Usually, to permit complete solution of a problem in a typical class lecture, only the simplest geometries are considered. Basic Fluid Mechanics even rigs answers for many problems to be rational numbers, with an eye on emphasizing concepts rather than stressing operations on a hand-held calculator. While convenient for the classroom, real engineering problems usually involve much more complex examples than standard textbook problems. Even though Basic Fluid Mechanics has numerous complicated examples in the Problems sections, none are explicitly worked start to finish with comments indicating why certain steps are taken. This study guide has been created to fill this void. Thus, Study Guide for Basic Fluid Mechanics is an illustrative-example book, while Basic Fluid Mechanics focuses on the theoretical development and explanation of fluid-mechanical principles. The study guide explains how to solve typical problems in fluid mechanics based on the theoretical concepts developed and discussed in the main text. It parallels the main text, chapter-by-chapter, presenting complete and explicit solutions to common types of fluid-flow problems. Each chapter begins with an overview of the types of problems included and a discussion of some of the most important details of general solution methodology. Often, there is a recurrent theme running through all of the solved problems, and the introductory comments identify such themes. On the one hand, as with a teacher's lecture notes, the study guide amplifies the most important concepts, leaving more subtle details to the main text. On the other hand, unlike a teacher's lecture notes, theoretical explanations are not covered here. Consequently, maximum value will be gained by first studying the material in the main text, and then examining the solved problems in the study guide. Conscientious use of Basic Fluid Mechanics and Study Guide for Basic Fluid Mechanics will give the reader a solid foundation in the theoretical foundations of fluid mechanics from the text and a mastery of the consequent methodology used to solve typical fluid-flow problems from the study guide.
