David Herbert Gems, British Biologist. Achievements include co-discovery of first automonously replicating plasmid for fungus Aspergillus nidulans; discovery of "instant gene bank" cloning method; isolated developmental mutants from A. nidulans; cloned surface coat mucin and TES-26 genes from nematode pathogen Toxocara canis; reproduction and aging in nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.
