Poleri, David Samuel was born on January 10, 1927 in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Tommaso Lampadusa and Carmela (La Russa) Poleri.


Repertoire and vocal studies with John Story Jenks, Alberto Sciarretti. Student Temple University, Lebanon (Pennsylvania) College, Academy Vocal Arts, Manhattan College. Special studies Columbia.

Studied Berkshire Music Festival, Lenox, Massachusetts, 1947-1948, Dante Alighier, Rome, Italy, also Circolare Art School, Rome.

Opera debut in Rigoletto and Faust, San Carlo Opera Company, Chicago, 1950. Symphony debut in Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Allentown Symphony. Appeared musical comedy Belle of New York, Columbia University.

Tenor New York City Center Company, in N Y. and on tour, also appeared with New Orleans Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Miami Opera Guild, Philadelphia Lyric, Philadelphia Grand, Pacific Opera, San Francisco Opera. Appeared European premiere Troilus and Cressida, La Scala in Milan. Participated festivals Florence, Edinburgh, Glyndebourne.

Television appearance Italian production Giordano’s Fedora, NBCTV Opera roles in Carmen, Tosca, Pique Dame, Cavalleria Rusticana. La Scala debut in role of Michele in Menotti’s The Saint of Bleeker Street. Record artist for Radio Corporation of America Victor.

Numerous performances Chicago Theatre of the Air, also concerts Radio Italiano in Europe.
