Deborah Kovacs is an American writer and editor. She is the author of more than thirty children’s books, both fiction and nonfiction.

Background

Kovacs was born on October 2, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, United States; the daughter of of Stanton H. Kovacs and Judith Genesen.

Education

Kovacs received a Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College in 1975.

Career

Kovacs began her career as a game and record developer at Sesame Workshop in 1975. Three years later she took a position of an editor of Sesame Street Magazine and held it until 1980.

Also Deborah was a founder and creative director of software division at Scholastic Corporation in 1982-1985. Then in 1991, she became an editor of Ocean Explorer Magazine and held it for four years. Since 1997 Kovacs has been a co-founder and editor-in-chief of Turnstone Public Group.

Nowadays she is a freelance writer and editorial director of Walden Pond Press. Deborah has also been editorially responsible for Walden Media’s partnership with Penguin Books for Young Readers.
