Karen Beil was born on February 15, 1950, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. She is the daughter of Victor Berger and Dorothy (Hall) Magnuson.
Karen attended Upsala College from 1967 to 1968 and received a Bachelor of Arts from Syracuse University in 1971.
After graduation Karen worked as reporter at City News Bureau of Chicago for one year. In 1973 she started her career as research editor at New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Albany, New York, rising to editor in 1976. She also served as associate director of information services for The Conservationist and New York State Environmental Notice Bulletin from 1978 to 1981.
Since 1981 Beil workes as a freelance editor and writer. She writes for her most favorite audience - children. Karen loves to create books that bring kids and their families together talking, playing, laughing, and learning and, of course, reading.
Karen Beil is also a co-founder of the Children’s Literature Connection, an organization that works to strengthen the connections between the creators of children’s books and the people who put them into the hands of children.
