Deirdre M. Baggot, Ph.D., MBA, BSN, currently serves as a member on the board of advisors for Sight Medical, LLC, a Louisiana based company which “automates the “last mile” of medical device logistics with the industry’s first end-to-end, vendor agnostic enterprise platform that aligns all stakeholders to the same business objectives.” Baggot has served on the board since October 2018. Baggot also acts as senior vice president and practice leader for bundled payments at The Camden Group, one of the nation’s leading healthcare business advisory firms, and as partner for health and life sciences at Oliver Wyman, a leading global management consulting firm that combines deep industry knowledge and expertise, with close partnerships and relationships.
As a young child, Baggot new that she wanted to pursue a position in the field. She grew up in a medical family – her father an anesthesiologist and her brother an OB. Over the years, Dr. Baggot has earned numerous degrees. She attended The Wharton School where she received a certificate in Health Care Executive Leaders; Southern Illinois University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); the Quinlan School of Business at Loyola University Chicago where she received her Master’s in Business Administration (MBA); and the University of Colorado Denver where she received her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).
Deirdre Baggot was a former expert reviewer for Medicare’s Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), for the BPCI for Models 2-4, and the former lead for CMS Acute Care Episode (“ACE”) Bundles Payment Demonstration. She also previously held the position as partner at ECG Management Consultants for two years (2016-2018), senior vice president for Healthcare Payment Innovation Practice Leader at GE Healthcare Partners for six years (2010-2016), senior administer at the Cardiac and Vascular Institute at SCL Health for four years (2016-2010), administrator manager and business analysis at the University of Michigan for three years (2003-2006), and as the manager of the Hospital Administration Group, as well as resource coordinator and staff nurse at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for six years (1997-2003).
For over twenty years she has been making headway in her field. Baggot has been featured on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Planet Money. She has published over twenty papers on various topics including healthcare reform, bundled payments, and payment transformation.
Over the last decade, Dr. Baggot has been featured as the keynote speaker at national meetings including BP Congress, AHA, Innovation Summit, HFMA, Medtronic, ACHE, SAS, IHI, BP Summit, and P4P Summit. She also contributed to an assortment of panels covering her specialty, including: Exploring the Future of Bundled Payments, a discussion about how organizations are developing and succeeding under healthcare bundled-payment models (3rd Annual Value-Based Care Summit, Boston 2018); Care Coordination and Technology Congress (3rd Annual Bundled Payment Summit, Atlanta, 2018); Alternative Payment Models and Their Impact on High-Value Care (Dallas, Colorado Springs, and Scottsdale, 2017); Bundled Payments in Perspective: Past, Present and Future, a discussion on the challenges associated with statewide bundled payment implementation and the best practices for analyzing data and reporting outcomes of bundled payment initiatives (The Seventh National Bundled Payment Summit, Arlington, 2017); Medicare BPCI: Lessons Learned and Implications for the Future (The Sixth National Bundled Payment Summit, Washington, DC, 2016); How to Build and Optimize an Episode-Based Payment Program, a discussion focused on the implementation of an effective bundled payment program for providers and payers, and a look into how to reduce costs and improve outcomes (Bundled Payment Implementation Forum, Coral Gables, 2015); and many more.
Today, Dr. Baggot is recognized for her many accomplishments. While working at the Cardiac and Vascular Institute if SCP Health she helped over 400 people in the organization while improving business development, payer contracting, marketing, recruiting, acquisitions, and more. While at the GE Healthcare Partners she successfully improved the healthcare payment system and was able to grow annual revenues for a payment consulting organization to $6.6 million. Overall, as a contributing member to the healthcare system, she built relationships, as well as designed and implemented her program and strategies in over two hundred hospitals around the world. With thanks to her leadership for the CMS ACE, she has been coined an innovator for bundled payments.
She is a nationally recognized contributor in the medical field. Her attitude toward listening to patients, serving clients, and making a difference is what makes her a unique asset in the healthcare industry. Dr. Baggot is also an avid supporter of those who is ambitious in pursuing their dreams.
