Sallie Foley was born on July 16, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri, United States to the family of Robert and Margaret Martin.
Sallie Foley graduated from the University of Michigan.
Sallie Foley worked at her alma mater - the University of Michigan. She started as an affiliate of the Graduate School of Social Work. Later, Foley took charge of the University Sexual Health Certificate Program and founded the Michigan University Medicine center for sexual health.
Nowadays, Foley has a private practice in Ann Arbor. She is a sex therapist and sexuality educator. Sallie is the author of the works Sex matters for women and Modern love: a no-nonsense guide to a life of passion. Her second book is based on her column "Modern Love" in the nationally circulated AARP the Magazine.
Foley has twice served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). She also served on the Board of Directors for the Intersex Society of North America. In 2005, as a member of the Consortium on the Management of Disorders of Sex Development (DSD), she was a contributing author in conjunction with ISNA’s Medical Advisory Board on the publication Clinical Guidelines for the Management of Disorders of Sexual Differentiation in Childhood.
