Dennis Stine

Career

Elected to a term of his own that same year, Stine suddenly resigned the seat to become commissioner of administration for newly elected Governor Buddy Roemer. Stine is the fifth of seven children of a couple from Sulphur in Calcasieu Parish, Jackson West. Stine, who established Stine Lumber Company, and the former Doris Rita "DeeDee" Drost (1921-2010). She is interred at Dutch Cove Cemetery in Calcasieu Parish.

In 1970, Stine attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana.

He switched thereafter to McNeese State University in Lake Charles, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974. They have four children, Jason, Laurie, Jana, and Benjamin Stine.

The office of Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler lists Stine in August 2015 as a registered Republican voter.

Achievements

• He won a special election in 1987 to succeed J. Burton Andrepont, who resigned with a year remaining in his second term. When Stine left the state House, his younger brother, Tim Stine, a Democrat, won the special election to fill the remainder of the term. Stine is a Roman Catholic and is active in the United Way of America and the American Red Cross, which named him the winner of its Clara Barton Award in 1983.

Membership

He is a member of the Delta Xi chapter of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. His mother was a member of the first class of then McNeese Junior College and was a cheerleader, secretary of the first graduating class, and the first class favorite.
