Desmond Dykes Tynte O'CALLAGHAN, British Major-General.
Background
O'CALLAGHAN, Desmond Dykes Tynte was born in January 1843. Son of late Doctor P. O’Callaghan, Doctor of Civil Law, Doctor of Laws, late 11th Hussars, and the widow of J. Marshall, Member of Parliament, of Keswick, Cumberland, daughter of Joseph Dykes of Dovenby Hall.
Education
Studied at Ordnance School, Carshalton. Royal Military Academy Woolwich.
Career
Has served in both Field and Garrison Artillery, having been quartered in Canada, Bermuda, South Africa, where he commanded the R.A. 1891-1892, and as Major-General commanded the R.A. at Malta. Was for some years on the experimental staff at Shoeburyness. Has been both Secretary and Member of the Ordnance Committee.
And has served on the staff of the Director of Artillery at the War Office. Distinguished Service Reward, 1905. Late R.A.; was President Ordnance Committee and Ordnance Board; Commanded R.A., Malta.
