Detlev Buck was born on December 1, 1962, in Bad Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

Education

Detlev Buck was raised on the farm owned by his parents. After graduating from high school, he was trained as a farmer. It was during this time when he produced his first short movie, Erst die Arbeit und dann? It was released in 1984.

The following year, Buck was admitted to the Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie (German Film and Television Academy Berlin) where he studied till 1989.

Career

Detlev Buck's career can be counted from his debut short movie, Erst die Arbeit und dann? that he produced during his studies at the Deutsche Film und Fernsehakademie (German Film and Television Academy Berlin) during the middle of the 1980s. In addition to the picture, he has made a number of other movies during this time which were featured both on TV and in the cinema.

In 1991, Buck, along with Claus Boje, co-founded the Boje Buck Filmproduktion which produced the first feature film by Buck, titled Karniggels. The company was renamed as the Boje Buck Produktion the following year. Buck's 1993 comedy Wir können auch anders (No More Mr. Nice Guy) had success at the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival.

Since Karniggels that provided its director with international acclaim, Detlev Buck has worked on other short and feature pictures, both as an actor and director. He has starred in his own movies, including cameo appearances, as well as in the pictures of other directors.
