(The Cusp of Dreams is the dark saga of our time: men and ...)
The Cusp of Dreams is the dark saga of our time: men and women desperate to close penny-ante deals in order to pay next month's rent. To survive they will do almost anything. Yet despite their treachery toward others, they themselves are at risk of losing it all-their jobs, their relationships, and their families. For these men and women living on the cusp, there is no reprieve.

(American Suite is an edgy comedy of manners. What happens...)
American Suite is an edgy comedy of manners. What happens when a WASP family becomes multicultural-a little bit Jewish, a bit Hindu, and, needless to say, African-American? Here is a "chick lit" novel that upends our notions about romance, celebrity, family, identity, and our seemingly insatiable hunger for memoir to ask, "Who are we really, and what are we becoming?" "Diana Sheets has written an incredibly innovative novel. She cleverly tells the story of three women, a mother and her two daughters, through compelling diary entries from each of them over a two year period. They are intelligent, sophisticated women, each juggling their own lives and personal relationships, as well as the often antagonistic familial one among the three of them. Ms. Sheets has skillfully kept each character in character, not always an easy task, and their stories are told in such a way that each voice is clearly defined. To simply say, 'It's a real page turner,' somehow doesn't seem to do American Suite justice, but that is exactly what this book is. I couldn't wait to discover what wonderful writing awaited me on the next page. My congratulations to Ms. Sheets on an exceptional story." Kathleen Kubik, author, Neither Sand Nor Sea "Diana Sheets is unafraid of taking on the sacred cows of 'chick lit' in a sweeping family saga that offers up sexy men, violent and treacherous romance, dull marriage, soulful union and resourceful women . . . . Religious and spiritual confusions vie for attention with family loyalties and geographic rootedness as a New Yorker moves to the Midwest in search of a good-enough life." Jerry Sander, author of Unlimited Calling (Certain Restrictions Apply)

(NOVEL The Cusp of Dreams is the dark saga of our time: me...)
NOVEL The Cusp of Dreams is the dark saga of our time: men and women desperate to close penny-ante deals in order to pay next month’s rent. To survive they will do almost anything. Yet despite their treachery toward others, they themselves are at risk of losing it all—their jobs, their relationships, and their families. For these men and women living on the cusp, there is no reprieve. The novel was inspired by Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman and David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Diana E. Sheets worked in sales and sales management in the metropolitan New York region for twelve years after receiving her Ph.D. from Columbia University. She relocated to Champaign, Illinois in 1998 to write fiction. Convinced that sanctimonious virtue, faux consciousness, confessional memoir, and estrogen-saturated femininity have killed fiction, she posts her literary criticism and political commentary, as well as her fiction on her website, http://www.literarygulag.com. Funding for this novel has been provided courtesy of the Illinois Campus Research Board at the University of Illinois. The chapters “The Cusp of Dreams,” “I Can Getcha Close,” “Fleur-de-Lis,” “Cold Comfort,” and “Ashes Out of Phoenix” were “workshopped” at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival. Excerpts from the chapters “Embers” and “Ashes Out of Phoenix” from The Cusp of Dreams were published in Sensations Magazine, respectively, in Spring, 2005 and Winter, 2002. Special thanks to John & Sally Thomason and Jim & Brannan Galyean for their extraordinary Southern hospitality. Nonetheless, “Cold Comfort” is filtered through a decidedly “Yankee” sensibility and does not reflect the views of my gracious hosts. I am grateful to Michael F. Shaughnessy, Senior Columnist for http://www.ednews.org, who has interviewed me about The Cusp of Dreams and the ramifications of the Literary Gulag vis-à-vis literature and politics today.
