columnist political consultant pollster strategist author
Dick Morris was born on November 28, 1946, in New York City, New York, United States. He is a son of Terry Lesser Morris, a writer, and Eugene J. Morris, an attorney.
Dick Morris received general education at Stuyvesant High School. He showed himself off as an active participant of the debate team while at the institution, managing Jerrold Nadler's campaign for class president.
After graduating in 1964, Morris pursued his studies at Columbia University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree three years later.
Dick Morris began his career in the early 1970s. His association with Hillary and Bill Clinton began in 1977, when Bill, then-attorney general of Arkansas, hired Morris as a political consultant to help in his first gubernatorial race. After Clinton lost the governorship in 1980, he turned again to Morris to help him prepare to reclaim the seat in 1982. This time, Clinton took the election – the same appeared during the subsequent re-elections two, four, and eight years later.
Morris was appointed Presidential advisory in Clinton administration at the beginning of Clinton’s first period of office in 1992. When the Republicans gained control of Congress two years later, President enlisted Morris to begin planning for the 1996 Presidential election.
After enjoying an almost unprecedented level of access to the president for much of the campaign, Dick Morris ended his relationship with the Clinton camp on August 29, 1996, amidst a scandal when it was discovered he had been retaining a high-priced prostitute. Morris described his experiences with the Clinton campaign in his 1997 book, ‘Behind the Oval Office: Winning the Presidency in the 90s’. After the departure, Dick Morris became a fervent critic of the Clintons policy, especially Hillary Clinton’s endeavor for the presidency.
Since the end of the decade, Morris applied his experience in political consultancy on a foreign stage. He served as the Chief strategist in the presidential campaigns of Fernando de la Rua in Argentina and Jorge Batlle in Uruguay, both in 1999, of Vicente Fox in Mexico the next year, and of Raphael Trotman in Guyana in 2006. Four years later, in the same capacity, he helped Christy Mihos on his gubernatorial race in Massachusetts. Morris has also collaborated with the United Kingdom Independence Party in their campaign before the 2004 European Parliament election and contributed to Viktor Yushchenko’s victory in the Presidential campaign of 2004-2005 in Ukraine.
After leaving Bill Clinton Administration in 1996, Morris has also tried his hand as a pollster and political commentator in a variety of media. In 1999, along with his wife, he co-founded a website vote.com aimed to display non-professional public views on different questions. In the course of time, Morris took up the presidency of the Web resource.
He has regularly appeared as a critic and pundit on Fox News programs, including Hannity & Colmes, Hannity, and The O'Reilly Factor, as well as in different local and national radio talk shows where he shares his prognosis about the likelihood of candidates’ victories on elections. He has contributed articles to the New York Post, a nonpartisan daily periodical The Hill, and NewsMax.com as well. In 2013, after Morris ignored Fox News programs for three months, the news service broke a contract with him. From 2013 to 2015, Dick Morris hosted a radio talk show on WPHT in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In addition to the above-mentioned publications, Morris has penned a number of books with his wife, including ‘Condi vs. Hillary’, ‘Rewriting History’ which criticized the Clinton policy, and others. A fervent opponent of the politicians, he has also helped in the creation of the ‘Hillary: The Movie’ focused on Hillary Clinton’s participation in a 2008 Presidential race. Morris has turned in another documentary, ‘FahrenHYPE 9/11’, for which he produced a screenplay as well.
The recent books by Morris include ‘Armageddon: How Trump Can Beat Hillary’ and ‘Rogue Spooks: The Intelligence War on Donald Trump’.
