Steven Torres was born in 1969 in Bronx, New York, United States and spent part of his childhood in Puerto Rico.
Steven Torres studied at Stuyvesant High School in New York. Soon after that, he attended Hunter College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in 1994. He also studied at the City University of New York, where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2002.
At the beginning of his career, Steven Torres served as a part-time staffer at New York Public Library in New York City. He has taught English at a number of institutions, including Bronx Community College, Yeshiva College, Utica College where he was an assistant professor of English in 2002-04, and Manchester Community College from 2004.
As the author, Steven Torres wrote the Precinct Puerto Rico series that includes the following titles, "Precinct Puerto Rico: Book One" that came out in 2002, "Death in Precinct Puerto Rico: Book Two" in 2003, "Burning Precinct Puerto" in 2004, and "Missing in Precinct Puerto Rico: Book Four" in 2006.
In 2007, Torres departed from the series to turn his attention to New York City as the site of his fiction in The Concrete Maze. Presently, he works and lives in Connecticut.
Steven Torres is particularly known as the author of a successful series of detective novels featuring his small-town sheriff Luis Gonzalo, whose beat is Angustias, Puerto Rico.
Torres's short fiction has appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, Crimespree, Demolition, Shred of Evidence, and SHOTS, among other periodicals.
