He is most well known for playing the ones and twos at parties in the five boroughs of New York City (especially for parties in Queens) where he deejays events for his alma mater, Saint John"s University. However, due to his increasing popularity in recent years, DJ Zeke has done events for many other universities across the United States. These universities include Brown University, Montclair State University, Cornell University and Hofstra University.
DJ Zeke is also known for his ability to get crowds hyped up as an emcee at college parties as well as hype up crowds during live hip hop performances.
Ezekiel Akinyemi was born in Staten Island and was raised in the Park Hill Projects. Akinyemi, a first generation Nigerian American, was first introduced to music at an early age.
From there, Akinyemi would learn to use the recording equipment and work the record players situated in the church. Akinyemi would practice for hours each Sunday and quickly realized his passion for music
He would spend much of his early childhood mastering the techniques of record playing.
In due time, DJ Zeke gained a reputation as one of New York"s most prominent, up-and-coming young talents. He would soon catch the attention of DJ Spynfo, a premier New York radio host at WQHT and together with the help of some of New York"s most talented young DJs such as DJ Sparkx and DJ Spider, would go on to form the supergroup "The College Club Kings," a network of popular DJs that reach over a million college listeners a year. He went on to the Regional Qualifiers held in Philadelphia on February 7, 2013.
On 14 January 2013, DJ Zeke was selected to participate in the esteemed Contest, a global DJ competition hosted by the popular energy drink company that "pits some of the top DJs from around the world against each other." On 1 February 2013, DJ Zeke was crowned the winner of New York"s Thre3style competition. On 14 January 2013, at Le Poisson Rouge in New York, DJ Zeke won the title of best DJ during the New York Qualifier of Red Bulletin"s Thre3style DJ Competition which featured an appearance from celebrity guest judge Statik Selektah.
Originally a member of the youth choir, the church pastor, however, decided to move young Akinyemi from the Church choir to the soundboard due to his inability to sing well.
