Donald Rubinetti was born on January 10, 1947, in Jersey City, New Jersey, United States. He is the son of Mark Anthony and Anna (DeTore) Rubinetti.
Rubinetti graduated from Trenton State College (now College of New Jersey) in 1971 and received his Master of Arts degree from Montclair State University in 1981. He also attended Montclair State College and William Paterson College.
Rubinetti started his career as a teacher at South Junior High School in Bloomfield in 1974. Two years later he went to North Junior High School, where he worked till 1983. He also worked as a teacher at North Arlington High School from 1979 till 1980 and at Bloomfield High School from 1980 till 1983. In 1983, he started working at Whippany Park High School and held the position of a teacher there for 3 years.
Since 1986, Pubinetti works at Franklin Avenue Middle School. He also works as a summer teacher at New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
During his career, Pubinetti has also worked in corporate sales, office supervision, and automobile repairs. Now he conducts summer storytime for young children at the local public library.

1996Rubinetti is a member of the International Reading Association (IRA), Children’s Literature and Reading Special Interest Group of the IRA, Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, National Council of Teachers of English, National Education Association, New Jersey Education Association and North Jersey Reading Council.
Rubinetti is married to Jacqueline Rubinetti. The couple has 2 daughters, Amanda and Amy.
