( Shows how to spiff up your storytelling skills, plus pl...)
Shows how to spiff up your storytelling skills, plus plenty of ideas for dance, movement, and drama techniques. This revised volume combines two classic resources by author Dorothy Jean Furnish: Exploring the Bible with Children, a bestseller, and Living the Bible with Children, which shows how to put the principles of the first book into practice. This new combination offers professional and lay Christian educators a current, reliable source book to help children really understand and experience the Bible. You'll learn more about what to tell children about the Bible and what methods are best to use with children. These methods include storytelling techniques, dance, movement, drama techniques, and the "meaning" of words for children.

(Dr. Furnish presents a valuable tool for bringing renewed...)
Dr. Furnish presents a valuable tool for bringing renewed interest into church school and Bible study. She believes we can eliminate the problem of Bible study without eliminating the use of the Bible with children. Beginning with definite truths about Bible study (the starting point must be an understanding of the nature of the Bible itself), Dr. Furnish examines the possibilities of meaning through discovery, exploration, investigation, and participation. Dr. Furnish presents an in-depth discussion on the focus, point of view, and the how-to of biblical instruction. First-hand examples will guide the reader to the method which is right for him or her. Here is a challenge for experimentation and invention. The challenge for the Christian educator is to, "discover an build on the potential of children rather than on their limitations." The Author: Dorothy Jean Furnish is professor of Christian education oat Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She earned her B. A. degree at Cornell and her M.A. and Phd. degrees from Northwestern University in the cooperative program with Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Dr. Furnish's accomplishments include pioneer work in the development of church learning centers, authorship of curriculum and articles on Christian education, and contributions to educational publications of The United Methodist Church. She is also the author of LIVING THE BIBLE WITH CHILDREN.
