Dr D Mandal has significantly contributed for the process development of the synthesis and fabrication of ceramic solid breeder materials for the Indian Test Blanket Module (TBM) programme. He has developed a process, named as, ‘Solid State Reaction Process’ for the synthesis and fabrication of pebbles of ceramic solid breeders.
Dr. D. Mandal born on 14th January 1964 in a village named, Dopukuria, in the district Murshidabad of West Bengal state in India. He is the eldest son of Shri Panchanan Mandal and Smt. Anjali Mandal. He has passed Secondary Examination from Shaktipur K M C Institution in 1979, Higher Secondary Examination from Krishnath College, Berhampur West Bengal in 1981. He has passed B. Sc (with Honors in Chemistry) from Calcutta University in 1984. He has completed B. Tech (Chemical Engineering) from Calcutta University in 1988 and joined Training School of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. After completion of one-year training he joined Chemical Engineering Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and engaged in various research activities. After completing 20 years of service he took admission at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay for Ph.D. and completed in 2912. He has been awarded Excellence in Thesis Work by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 2013. Presently, he is designated as Head, Alkali Material & Metal Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai. He also becomes Professor in Chemical Science at Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai. To date, he has guided fifteen M.Tech and two Ph.D. students. Presently he is guiding 6 Ph.D. students. He has published more than 100 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and national/international conferences.
