Duane Franklet was born on February 20, 1963. He is the son of Duane Sr. Franklet and Beverly (Bixler) Franklet.
Franklet was educated at the University of Richmond, earning his bachelor's degree in 1983. He studied at the University of Barcelona from 1983 to 1984. He also received master's degree from the University of Houston in 1989.
Duane Franklet began writing fiction in 1985, seven years before he started a computer company, Data Tracking Associates, with David Wallis.
In 1997 Franklet wrote Bad Memory, a techno-thriller, and as the president of his computer network and services company, wrote about what he knew. Jim Barlow, reviewing Bad Memory for the Houston Chronicle, contended that Franklet knows how computers work, but “he also knows how humans work.”

1997Quotations: "I am very concerned with presenting technology correctly to the reader. The business of Information Technology has become the largest private employer in the United States; so, I know a lot of savvy readers will be scrutinizing my work. I want to create a convincing battleground and give plenty of detail without sinking into paragraphs of nonfiction. It’s a constant balancing act to get the descriptions right and satisfy both a computer technician and a layperson simply looking for a good read."
Franklet tries to write a half-day, usually in the morning, and then he does computer work in the afternoon.
Franklet married Barbara Klinke on June 20, 1992. The couple has a child - Dean Michael.
