Durward studied at Heald Engineering College at the faculty of the Electrical Engineering. in 1963 Durward became a Bachelor of Science.
In 1966 he was a student of the University of Colorado. He became a Master of Science.
Durward studied at the University of Sarasota. In 1980 he received a degree of the Doctor of Education in Higher Education.

Durward Roy married to Lillian Hope Farrell on 18 April in 1959. Her body ceased all remaining functionally on September 16, 2009, due to a dementia of the Alzheimer's variety. She was a wonderful wife and mother! Very encouraging and supportive of our children and me in our family's home, school, church and career activities. Children: Donald Durward, Heatherlyn. Durward Roy married to Lorraine Elva Kelley Sherwood on 14 November 2009. We assisted each other as part of the caregiving teams in the final years of our respective spouse.
