He was educated in public schools at Batavia, N. Y., the young man completed a course in architectural study at Syracuse University where he was graduated A. B. in 1897.
After establishing an office in the city, Mr. Hallenbeck continued practice until 1902, retiring in that year to join the faculty of the University as Professor of Architecture, a position he held during the rest of his life.
While engaged in private practice he planned a number of high schools in central New York, and several churches in Syracuse, including the Calvary Baptist, Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and the Valley Presbyterian. Later Professor Hallenbeck designed many of the buildings on the Syracuse University campus, such as Slocum Hall and the Archbold Stadium.
