Mcbee was born on July 6, 1906 in Braymer, Missouri, United States; the son of William and Lydia (Post) Mcbee.
Mcbee received a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Jewell College in 1929. Two years later he earned his Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1936 from Purdue University.
Mcbee began his career as a professor at Purdue University in 1943 and held it for twenty four years. He served as a head of chemistry department at the same university in 1949-1967. Then in 1967, Earl became a Shreve Professor of Industrial Chemistry at Purdue University and held the position until 1972.
Mcbee was a member of Indiana Academy of Science, New York Academy of Science, American Chemical Society, Manufacturing Chemists Association, American Institute of Chemists, Indiana Chemical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Sigma Xi, Phi Lambda Upsilon, Alpha Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi Sigma.
On February 15, 1962 Earl Mcbee married Viola Renolds. They have 2 children.
