Career

She served as Superintendent of the Bureau of Scientific Investigation and the Department of Scientific Temperance Instruction of both the United States and the World"s Women"s Christian Temperance Union. Mistress Smith also edited The Temperance Education Quarterly (1910–1917). In 1907 she received an honorary Doctor of Letters (Doctor of Letters) degree from Lawrence University.

Achievements

• In 1983, she was awarded the Arizona Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of her service to the mentally retarded.
